メルマガ第1週目は、「バイリンガル教育（言語）」についてお伝えしていきます。

「小学生が家庭で英語を学ぶための4つの“環境作り”」

1.　自分も英語を学ぶ

子供にとって、お母さん・お父さんが勉強している姿を見ることは大切なことです。両親が勉強することで、子どもたちも一緒になって学び、成長することができます。また、自分も英語を勉強することで、「間違うことは、言語を学び、日常生活で使う上で当たり前のことなのだ」 ということを子どもに伝えることができます。

2.　英語で遊ぶ

子ども達は、幼い頃に英語を学ぶとき、勉強ではなく遊んでいるのだと思うのが大事です。遊ぶか勉強するかの選択肢を与えれば、ほとんどの子どもは遊ぶほうを選ぶでしょう。子どもたちは、日常生活の中で、身の回りの世界や言葉について自然に学ぶことができる特別な力を持っています。日本語を学ぶのと同じように英語を学ばせることが、一番のアドバイス です。

3.　英語でテレビを見る・音楽を聞く

子ども達がスクリーンの前で過ごす時間は制限したいものですが、だからといってスクリーンタイムがすべて悪いというわけではありません。英語の歌をバックグラウンドで流しておい たり、小学生のお子さんには日中30分までのスクリーンタイムを許可したりするのもいいでしょう。外国の歌を聴いたり、英語の番組を見たりすることで、お子さまの興味の幅が広がって、英語を学び、日常生活で使おうという意欲が高まります。

4.　ゲームやデバイスの言語を英語に設定する

子供達がスイッチ、iPad、タブレット、Wiiなどを持っている場合、それを英語に設定することは、お子様がポジティブな環境で頻繁に英語に触れる良い方法です。子供達が電子機器で遊ぶためには、英語での指示や説明を理解する必要がありますが、これはとても良い練習になります。大人にとっても、携帯電話の設定を英語にすることで、常に英語を見たり使ったりする機会を得ることができます。

How To Make An Environment For Elementary School Children To Learn English At Home

1.Learn English yourself

It is important for children to see that their parents are studying too. If you study while your children are also learning, this will provide a chance for everyone to learn together and grow. By learning English yourself, you can show your children that making mistakes is a normal part of learning a language and using it in everyday life.

2.Play in English

Children should believe that they are playing and not studying when they are learning English at a young age. If you give children the choice to play or study, most children will choose to play. Children have a special power to naturally learn about the world and language around them doing everyday activities. The best advice is to help your children learn English in the same way that they learned Japanese.

3.Watch TV or listen to music in English

We want to limit the amount of time that children spend in front of a screen, but that does not mean that screen time is all bad. You can keep English songs on in the background, or allow elementary aged children up to 30 minutes of screen time during the day. Listening to foreign songs or watching English programs can broaden your children's interests and motivation to learn and use English in their daily lives.

4.Make sure the Wii or PlayStation is set to use English

If your children have electronic devices, setting them to English is a good way for them to encounter English in a positive setting and often. In order to play on their device, children will have to understand directions and commands in English which is really good practice. For adults, setting your cell phone settings to English will provide an opportunity to constantly see and use English.
